Amiram Rigai
Israeli Rhapsody No. 1
This dramatic rhapsody was written on May 14, 1948, the day the Israel's independence was declared. The Rhapsody opens with powerful chords which symbolize the day of the declaration of independence. The motives which are heard in continuation include an Israeli dance expressing the joy of the life of the pioneer spirit, a pastoral theme combined with a lyric section of Jewish character, and a shepherd's song. An Arabic debka combined with Jewish, Israeli, and Arabic motives concludes the composition with a vision of peace.
